News 20 years Teaming with our Clients. Building Trust. 12/01/2026

July 2025 marked the start of the year-long celebration of GPA Law Firm (GPA) reaching 20 years in the Portuguese legal market, with festivities set to continue until July 2026.

The Firm we know today is made up of a qualified and proactive team, easily adaptable to market dynamics, having achieved rapid growth based on technical rigour and excellence, while maintaining its focus on predominantly corporate legal advice, enabling it to reach significant milestones.

We are proud to be ranked among the top 25 law firms in the Portuguese market. Through GPA Network, our field of action extends to the whole of Portugal and beyond, thanks to our partnerships and international desks (Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe and German Desk). We have been working closely with GGI Global Alliance AG to strengthen our international partnership and implemented a unique governance model that led us to outperform our 2025 growth targets. Sustainability and corporate social responsibility have always been at the core of the Firm's management and policies, both internally and externally. This approach was embodied through the GPA Sustainable Impact project and publication of the first sustainability report in 2025 (GPA Sustainable Impact Report). In addition, measures were adopted which focused on the Firm's team, with a view to developing the potential of each employee through training (with the support of GPA Academy) and facilitating work-life balance.

We are looking ahead to 2026. Our focus is to building relationships of trust with our clients and other stakeholders. We will continue to develop partnerships within the GPA Network (led by Pedro Cantista) and strengthen GPA's most relevant areas of expertise. Sofia Gouveia Pereira and Margarida Lino Santos are at the head of Corporate Governance and Mergers and Acquisitions. Francisco Rodrigues Rocha leads Insurance and Transport and, alongside Sofia Gouveia Pereira, is in charge of Banking, Finance & Capital Markets, Compliance and Data Protection. Manuel Gouveia Pereira leads the Public, Environment and ESG areas of practice. Anabela Caetano is the head of Tax. João Frias Costa is head of Real Estate (including Legal Managed Services – overseeing the preparation and practice of formal legal acts in Real Estate Law, Mortgage Loans and Registries –), as well as EU and Competition, Litigation and Credit Recovery. Margarida Lino Santos and Pedro Cantista lead the Labour practice area.

It is therefore time to extend our gratitude to everyone who has played a role in the development of GPA as we know it today. This includes our dedicated team, our valued clients, the GPA Network, alumni and other stakeholders.
