News GPA Law Firm organises "Challenges and Opportunities of the new Voluntary Carbon Market" Conference 01/02/2024

GPA Law Firm organised the Conference "Challenges and Opportunities of the new Voluntary Carbon Market" for its Clients and other Stakeholders, on 30 January, coordinated by the Environment, Climate Change & ESG Areas, following the publication and entry into force of Decree-Law no. 4/2024 of 5 January, which established the Voluntary Carbon Market in Portugal and the rules for its operation.

After speeches by Sofia Gouveia Pereira, Nuno Lacasta (President of the APA - Portuguese Environment Agency), and Manuel Gouveia Pereira, the main issues raised by the new legal regime, in force since 6 January 2024, were discussed. The discussion panel included Nuno Lacasta, Nuno Banza (President of the ICNF - Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests), Ana Paula Rodrigues (Vice-President of ADENE - Energy Agency), and Gonçalo Almeida Simões, General Director of Biond (Association of Forest-Based Bioindustries).

It was an excellent morning of discussion that included the legal and regulatory perspective, the analysis of numerous practical issues that the various players in this market want to see clarified and the understanding of the competent authorities on the operationalisation of this market.

This conference was yet another GPA Law Firm initiative in line with its firm commitment to sustainability.
