There has been intense debate in the Portuguese courts about whether sports insurance covers non-pecuniary damage in the event of permanent partial invalidity. The issue was recently the subject of a new ruling by the Supreme Court of Justice, dated 10 October 2023 (rapporteur: Maria João Vaz Tomé), case no. 1015/20.8T8PVZ.P1.S1.

Along with the group nature of Decree-Law no. 10/2009, this was one of the main topics dealt with by Francisco Rodrigues Rocha in the session on Sports Insurance, given at the Postgraduate Course in Sports Law organised by the Autónoma Academy.
